PowerSpout Low Head Pro - LH Pro Hydro Turbine

The PowerSpout LH Pro is a highly efficient propeller turbine with an automatic debris cleaning mechanism. On a suitable site it can produce up to 1.6 kW, 24 hours a day, all year. If you need more, units can be stacked to generate over 16 kW on the same penstock and power cable.

What the Pro adds. Low head sites carry leaves and weed, and a blocked intake costs you output every time it happens. The LH Pro clears itself: a motor driven brush sweeps the outer screen on a timer, and a cutter bar on the propeller deals with anything that gets past it. On a site with seasonal leaf fall, that is the difference between a turbine you visit and one you leave alone.

Specifications

• Static head range: 1 to 5 m (3 – 16 feet)
• Maximum flow per turbine: 55 l/s (880 gpm)
• Minimum flow per turbine: 25 l/s (400 gpm)
• Dimensions: 300 mm diameter x 1050 mm long (12 x 42 inches)
• Maximum power: 1600 W
• Maximum short circuit current (Isc): 30 A, set by the MC4 connectors. An upgrade to 50 A is available where your site needs it — our calculator works this out from your figures.

Voltage

The LH Pro is available as LH150/250/400. Note that unlike our PLT and TRG turbines, the number here is the maximum runaway voltage (Voc) — not the operating voltage. The best operating voltage, the cable voltage or MPPV, is about half of it. An LH400 works best at 200 V and should never exceed 400 V. Each turbine is built for your site, and the voltage depends on your head.

An LH Pro turbine comes with

• Automatic outer leaf cleaner — brush, gear motor drive and coupling
• Power supply and timer circuit for the cleaner
• Cutter bar on the propeller
• 1 x PVC base fitting for a 200 mm OD PVC draft tube (the draft tube itself is not supplied)
• Manual grease fittings
• One SKF LAGD 125/WA2 automatic greaser, fitted — over 12 months of continuous lubrication
• Bearing block pre-charged with 70 g of SKF LGWA 2/0.4 grease, to keep moisture out from day one
• 2 m of 4 mm² tinned PV wire for +, − and earth
• 2 x MC4 cable connectors
• 3 year warranty on standard turbines (under 1200 W), 2 years above 1200 W

Bearings. Replace the automatic greaser once a year and your bearing warranty runs for the full term of the turbine warranty. Replacement greasers and grease tubes are available here.

Servicing. The motor, gearbox and coupling that drive the cleaner are consumable — replace them when they wear out. We sell them on their own, and in an LH Pro spare parts kit alongside the bearing set, seal, drive shaft, bushes and cleaner brush.

Ordering

• On heads above 3.6 m you must order the High Power version and use a 250 mm OD draft tube. The 250 mm draft tube adaptor is too heavy to ship in the same carton as an LH Pro, so please order it separately.
• Below that head, order the High Power upgrade if your site asks for 0.69 W/rpm or more from each turbine. Our calculator tells you this.
• Other LH Pro parts can ship in the same carton as your turbine, up to 29 kg total.
