High Power Upgrade

HP means high power. The High Power (HP) upgrade builds your turbine with our high power generator in place of the standard one, and is the option referred to as "HP" throughout our calculators, manuals and product listings.

A PowerSpout generator is rated in watts per rpm (W/rpm), which is how much power it produces for each revolution of the turbine. A standard generator is rated to 0.68 W/rpm. Sites that ask for more than this need the HP generator, which is built with a high power magnetic rotor matched to the stator your site requires.

You need the high power upgrade if:

• Your calculation asks for more than 0.68 W/rpm from each turbine. The PowerSpout Advanced Calculator works this out for you and tells you when HP is required, so you do not need to calculate it yourself.
• You are installing an LH or LH Pro on a head above 3.6m. These sites must also use a 250mm OD draft tube, which needs the draft tube adaptor and glue sleeve.
• You need the full output of a PLT or TRG. A standard turbine is rated to 1200W and a high power turbine to 1600W.

The upgrade is a per turbine option. Where a system uses more than one turbine, every turbine in that system is built the same way, so order one upgrade for each turbine you are buying.

The LH Mini has no high power version.

How to order: select "High Power Upgrade — Yes" on your turbine's product page and this upgrade is added to your cart for you. If you have come from the Advanced Calculator to your solution page, it is already included whenever your design requires it. The high power generator is fitted while your turbine is built, so it must be ordered at the same time as your turbine. It is not a retrofit and is not sold on its own.
